European soccer champion Dani Olmo is reportedly on the verge of a transfer from Bundesliga club RB Leipzig to FC Barcelona. As reported by Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, a verbal agreement is said to be in place. The clubs are said to have agreed on a transfer fee of 55 million euros plus additional payments of 7 million euros. Olmo is said to have signed a contract until June 2030.
After an exit option for the fixed transfer fee of 60 million euros had expired, Leipzig had reportedly turned down lower offers from Spain and Manchester City. However, Olmo had indicated his desire to move. He is considered the transfer of choice of Barcelona's sporting director Deco and former national team coach Hansi Flick.
Olmo in Leipzig since Monday
On Tuesday morning, Leipzig's new sporting director, Marcel Schäfer, stated that he was "relatively relaxed" about the potential transfer. Olmo had landed back in Leipzig with his advisor on Monday evening after his vacation and was scheduled to start training on Thursday. Olmo has played for RB since January 2020 and his contract is valid until the end of June 2027.
The 26-year-old midfielder would initially join three other European champions in Barcelona, who started training on Monday. Lamine Yamal, Ferran Torres and Pedri were seen back at the training center after their vacations, with Pedri still training individually.
The rest of coach Hansi Flick's squad are still on tour in the USA. After victories against Manchester City and Real Madrid, the trip ends with a match against AC Milan on Tuesday (local time).
