Bundesliga club RB Leipzig can call on Xaver Schlager sooner than expected. The Austrian midfielder returned to partially integrated team training for the first time at the start of the training week ahead of the match against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday (18:30/Sky). The 27-year-old had originally been expected to return at the end of March following a knee injury sustained during the winter break.
Mental player Schlager had only returned from a cruciate ligament injury in November and had played five games for RB. It remains to be seen whether he will be back in the squad against Dortmund. However, a brief appearance does not seem to be completely out of the question.
"I think it's very good that Xaver is back," said Xavi Simons after the public training session. The director and driving force is also important for the Dutchman, who could be given more freedom to play again by Schlager and thus give new impetus to Leipzig's recent lack of goals.
