Coach Rodrigo Pastore had clear words after the Niners Chemnitz' embarrassing defeat against Bonn. "That was embarrassing from the first to the last minute," the Argentine told MDR after the 88:123 defeat.
"We're in a difficult situation that didn't just start today. We're working very hard, but obviously you can't see the results of our work yet." Chemnitz remains in mid-table in the German Basketball League with six wins from eleven games. The outstanding Darius McGhee led Bonn to victory with 40 points, Chemnitz did not lead once. The hosts trailed 17:38 after just nine minutes.
"Huge step forward" required
The European Cup winners are currently under a lot of pressure with national and international games. According to Pastore, however, his team lacked something else against Bonn. "Mentality. The team gives up at the first resistance. We're not very strong mentally," said Pastore. The 52-year-old apologized to the fans for the team's performance.
Captain Jonas Richter criticized the team's defensive work in particular. "That doesn't have much to do with good defense or how we want to define ourselves as a team," said the 27-year-old. "We have to take a huge step forward. The form curve is pointing in a negative direction. We have to learn from it somehow."
