Sports director Rouven Schröder will leave RB Leipzig with immediate effect and become the new sports director at FC Red Bull Salzburg. This was announced by both clubs at the same time. According to information from the German Press Agency, the negotiations and the agreement were already finalized in the past few days, so the change has nothing to do with the current crisis situation and Leipzig's 5-1 defeat in the Bundesliga against VfL Wolfsburg. A decision is yet to be made on a replacement for the position.
"Rouven has fully committed himself to both his duties and the club and has always taken on responsibility. The talks about his desire to move were also very transparent and professional," said Leipzig's sporting director Marcel Schäfer. Schröder had held the position of sports director at Leipzig since April 1, 2023.
In Salzburg, Christoph Freund was sporting director from 2015 to 2023 before moving to FC Bayern Munich in the same position in September 2023. "FC Red Bull Salzburg is making this decision not only due to the unsatisfactory sporting development in recent months, but also in view of the massively increased demands in the areas of transfers, player development and scouting," said the Austrian club. Schröder will initially be supported by sports director Bernhard Seonbuchner. The position of sports director has been newly created.
