National player Luca Witzke will leave Leipzig's handball team after the season. After six years with SC DHfK, the 25-year-old is moving to Bundesliga rivals SG Flensburg-Handewitt. Witzke has developed into a top player in Leipzig and wants to take the next step in his career in Flensburg. The playmaker has signed a two-year contract with the Schleswig-Holstein club until June 30, 2027.
"I would just like to say thank you at this point. I have felt an incredible amount of trust during my time here in Leipzig and have grown as a player and a person," Witzke explained in a club statement.
Born in Moers, Witzke has played 38 international matches to date. In the summer, he won the silver medal at the Olympic Games. In Flensburg, he will replace the Swede Jim Gottfridsson, who will move to Pick Szeged in Hungary in the summer after twelve years. There is no word yet on Witzke's successor in Leipzig.
