The ThSV Eisenach handball team missed out on a move into the top third of the Bundesliga table. The Thuringians lost 33:37 (16:23) at home to German record champions THW Kiel. Eric Johannsen and Domagoj Duvnjak (8 each) played the biggest part in the visitors' success. Mario Grgić (14/5) and Simone Mengon (5) scored the most goals for Eisenach.
The record champions laid the foundation for their success in the first half. After drawing 4:4 in the 6th minute, Kiel pulled away to 23:14 shortly before the break. However, the home side made the game exciting once more with an 11:2 run to make it 23:25 (40'). In the final phase, the visitors were able to rely on their outstanding goalkeeper Andreas Wolff, who prevented Eisenach from catching up with eleven saves.
