Every year, some parks and gardens in Germany are transformed into glittering worlds during Advent. Light and music turn the agra-Park Markkleeberg into a Christmas Garden - in the dark.

Warm light and shimmering colors will once again transform the 19th century Herfurth'schen Landschaftspark in Markkleeberg into Leipzig's Christmas Garden this Advent after its successful premiere in 2023. For the second edition from 26 November to 5 January 2025, the organizers have announced a total of 30 installations that will transform today's agra-Park into "a magical sea of glitter" with sparkling attractions at nightfall.

Readings with Anna Thalbach and Mieze

According to Christmas Garden Deutschland GmbH, the approximately two-kilometre-long audiovisual tour leads from the more than 2,000-square-metre sea of lights to a Wishing Bridge and the Wishing Tree. In between, light flakes dance across the ground, there are sparkling cuddly bears and forest animals in the undergrowth, a ballet of colors and water fairy tales as well as a lake of wisdom with shimmering lotus blossoms. In December, readings with actress Anna Thalbach and singer Mieze, front woman of the Berlin electropop band MIA, are planned in the ambience.

Leipzig is currently one of the 15 Christmas Garden locations in Europe; 85,000 people were enchanted the first time. In Germany, in addition to the park at Pillnitz Palace in Dresden, the Botanical Gardens in Berlin, Wilhelma in Stuttgart, Ehrenbreitstein Fortress in Koblenz, the island of Mainau and areas of the zoos in Augsburg, Berlin, Hamburg, Hanover and Karlsruhe are also glittering.
