Leipzig is planning a budget of 2.8 billion euros for the next two years. Mayor Burkhard Jung emphasizes the need for decisive action. Increases in social services are a cause for concern.

Saxony's largest city, Leipzig, is planning a budget volume of 2.8 billion euros for the next two years. The current situation requires decisive action and close cooperation with all political players, emphasized Lord Mayor Burkhard Jung. "We have set clear priorities in the draft, for example for schools, for cleanliness, for clubs, associations and for continued good economic development. But not all wishes can be fulfilled," said the SPD politician.

The increases in social services, which account for almost half of the budget, are particularly worrying. The city council is due to vote on the budget on March 12, 2025.
