Whether museums, sports groups, social clubs or the fire department, many things would be impossible without volunteers. Every year, people who dedicate their free time to these causes are in the spotlight in the state parliament.

For State Parliament President Alexander Dierks, volunteers are one of the pillars of civil society in Saxony. "They contribute time, energy and a great deal of idealism," he said at a reception in Dresden and thanked them on behalf of the parliament. They didn't grumble, they didn't just watch or wait for others, they pitched in and got involved. "This deserves the greatest respect from all of us," he emphasized and: "In voluntary work, the much-cited charity is lived every day."

60 volunteers from all areas and regions honored

Dierks and a representative of Social Minister Petra Köpping (SPD) recognized the work of 60 women and men who received a certificate. According to the press release, Köpping said that they helped to "ensure good coexistence" and connect people, which is why they deserve recognition, respect, appreciation and support. The honorees from all regions of the Free State are active in their free time in the social sector, for culture and education such as in museums or schools, but also in sports clubs as well as in the fire department or disaster control.
