Their own arena is occupied by "Holiday on Ice". The Magdeburg team will therefore play the European Cup second leg in Dessau. Coach Wiegert is looking forward to the change of scenery.

SCM coach Bennet Wiegert does not see the change of venue for the Champions League round of 16 second leg as a problem - on the contrary. "We should concentrate on 60 minutes of handball and if we could do that outdoors, then we would," said the 43-year-old ahead of the game against Dinamo Bucharest on Wednesday (20:45/Dyn and DAZN).

Due to the ongoing "Holiday on Ice" show in the Getec Arena, SC Magdeburg will have to switch to the sold-out Anhalt Arena in Dessau for the second leg. "I have to tell you honestly that I'm also looking forward to Dessau. Of course I would have liked to give the people of Magdeburg the chance to see such a knockout stage game in Magdeburg," said Wiegert. "But it's still something special to be active in Dessau."

Top club awaits in the quarter-finals

He was curious to see whether many Magdeburg fans would come along or whether spectators from other regions would also be in the stands, said the coach. The team traveled to Dessau on Tuesday and will complete the usual warm-up on Wednesday. That will be enough "to get a feel for the arena again", said Wiegert.

The Magdeburg side secured a good starting position with the 30:26 win in the first leg. Top Hungarian club Veszprém HC would be waiting in the quarter-finals.
