Johannes Scheidweiler plays the leading role in "Hamlet" at the Staatstheater Cottbus. The up-and-coming actor has also landed a role in the Odenthal "Tatort". Which investigator does he like best?

Actor Johannes Scheidweiler (25, "Mit der Faust in die Welt schlagen") recently started supporting the investigators in Ludwigshafen's "Tatort" - and also has his own favorites in the popular TV crime series. "Unfortunately, he has now retired, but Klaus Borowski was always one of my favorite actors in Kiel," the up-and-coming actor told the German Press Agency.

Axel Milberg had recently bid farewell to his role as the oddball investigator Borowski. Scheidweiler said that he had always loved the "Tatort" series, even in its dark side.

Premiere of "Hamlet" at Staatstheater Cottbus

The 25-year-old has appeared in two episodes of "Tatort" in Ludwigshafen, where he is part of the investigative team around Commissioner Lena Odenthal (Ulrike Folkerts). He grew up with the popular crime series, said Scheidweiler. "We always watched Tatort together with my parents, every Sunday, so I definitely have an affinity for Tatort."

In addition to his TV and film projects, the actor is also active in the theater. On Saturday evening, the premiere of the play "Hamlet" was planned at the Staatstheater Cottbus. Scheidweiler, who comes from Radebeul in Saxony, can be seen there in the title role. Director Armin Petras is setting Shakespeare's story against the backdrop of the years of German reunification.

"Normally I'm only really excited on the day of the premiere. Now I've been excited all week, but I'm really looking forward to it and think it's a great challenge. It's great fun to play this antiposition of Hamlet."

Scheidweiler wants to go freelance

The actor has been a permanent member of the Staatstheater in Cottbus since 2021 and wants to go freelance after this season. The time at the theater was great, he says.

"After four years, I think I've simply reached the point where I want to be flexible again, get to know new places, new theaters and work with new people. And that's especially possible in freelance work." The comedy "Another German Tank Story" with Scheidweiler is due to be released in cinemas on April 10.
