The artistic director of the Gerhart-Hauptmann-Theater Görlitz-Zittau, Daniel Morgenroth, is leaving this stage after the 2025/26 season. He is moving to Würzburg, as the theater announced. "I'm leaving Görlitz and Zittau with a teary eye, but I'm looking forward to my new role with a smile on my face," Morgenroth said.
The director comes from Bavaria: he was born in Coburg in 1984. "Würzburg is a great city and Franconia is my home", he said. The decision for the Mainfranken Theater was a purely personal one. Morgenroth took over the directorship of the theater in Lausitz four years ago.
The Chairwoman of the Supervisory Board, Kristin Miedek, regretted his departure. "He has achieved a great deal here", she said according to the press release. "With a great deal of creativity and courage, he adapted the artistic program and was able to inspire the audience over the past four years."
The shareholders and supervisory board of the theater will now decide on a new artistic director and an interim director for the 2026/27 season.
