Norway is the guest country at the Leipzig Book Fair in March. Its crown princess is an avid reader. She will be joined by almost 50 authors, some of them very well-known.

Norway's Crown Princess Mette-Marit is coming to the Leipzig Book Fair. She will be joined by some very well-known authors such as Karl Ove Knausgård, Lars Mytting and Linn Strømsborg, as the director of Norwegian Literature Abroad (Norla), Margit Walsø, said at a press conference for the Leipzig Book Fair at the Norwegian Embassy in Berlin. Norway is this year's guest country at the Leipzig Book Fair.

Mette-Marit is an avid reader. The promotion of Norwegian literature is one of the hobbyhorses of Crown Prince Haakon's wife. In 2017, she was chosen as an ambassador for Norwegian literature abroad. The Norwegian royal family writes about her that Mette-Marit is passionate about literature and wants to share her love of reading. She is personally convinced that there is a book for everyone.

Opportunity to discover the international literary scene

Guest countries are always a central part of the Book Fair, said Director Astrid Böhmisch. They offer the opportunity to discover the international literary scene and to experience described realities from different perspectives. Norway is known for its outstanding authors.

However, the fair aims to bring together not only older literature fans, but also younger ones. There is a special focus on literature for children and young adults. Contemporary non-fiction, crime novels and literature by the Sámi minority will also take center stage.

The literary motto of the guest country is "Dream in Spring". The Leipzig Book Fair takes place in conjunction with the Manga Comic Con and the reading festival "Leipzig reads" from March 27 to 30 under the motto "Words move worlds". Last year, 283,000 people visited the fair.
