Prinzen frontman Krumbiegel: I don't want to be cheesy

Although he sings about childhood heroes, love and family, musician Sebastian Krumbiegel doesn't want his music to be kitsch. "I don't really want to be kitschy. But that's another way to open hearts," said the musician in an interview with the German Press Agency. Krumbiegel said that he still "just about manages to avoid kitsch" with his word creations. His fans can see this for themselves with his new album ("Aufstehen - Weitermachen!"), which will be released on September 20.

Krumbiegel also finds lines of text that open the heart and thus touch on kitsch in the music of his role models, he said. "I'm a big Beatles fan. They also wrote their songs in a mostly positive way. Incidentally, they have that in common with Bach. That's another reason why their music is worth much more than many others in this world."

In addition to Freddie Mercury, one of his musical idols from childhood, Leipzig-born Krumbiegel also sings about his grandma and Dagmar - his kindergarten teacher - on his new album. "You could say the album is a musical autobiography". But that wasn't the plan, he said.

He didn't look for themes for his new album, but sang about what he had experienced, the musician said. "That is real. Today you would say: It's real. Aunt Dagmar, for example, was really important to me. She gave me a hug when others teased me. It was time to make a song about that."
