Electric cars can be charged at around 5,400 charging points in Saxony. In a VDA ranking, the Free State therefore scores particularly well.

In a nationwide comparison, Saxony has the fewest e-cars per charging point. Around 5,400 connections are available for around 63,400 e-cars in the state, according to the latest e-charging network ranking by the German Association of the Automotive Industry. This equates to 11.8 electric cars per charging point.

As in the previous year, this puts Saxony in first place in the corresponding category of the ranking, ahead of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (11.9) and Thuringia (12.0). However, all three states are among the worst performers in Germany in terms of the proportion of electric cars, which helps them to achieve a better position in the evaluation. If you compare the number of all vehicles with the number of charging points, Berlin, Baden-Württemberg and Hamburg are in the lead. Saarland brings up the rear in both cases.

District of Zwickau performs best in Saxony

Within Saxony, there are significant differences in the density of the charging network. The district of Zwickau performs best with 8.9 e-cars per charging point, followed by Dresden (9.1) and Leipzig (10.3). In last place are the districts of Leipzig (16.0), Meißen (16.9) and North Saxony (18.4).

There are more than 140,000 charging points across Germany. The Federal Motor Transport Authority reports 2.48 million purely battery-powered electric cars and plug-in hybrids at mid-year. This means that there is an average of 17.3 electric cars per publicly accessible charging point. This is significantly better than a year ago, when there were still around 21 e-cars according to the VDA's calculation method.
