German Lumberjack Championships in Klingenthal: Danny Martin defends his title

The best lumberjacks in Germany will determine their champions this weekend in Klingenthal, Saxony. For two days, action with axe and saw is the order of the day in the Vogtland Arena, where ski jumpers usually have their domicile. Muscle power alone is not enough to win the titles, according to the organizers. The German champion in sports woodcutting must also have precision, speed of reaction and, above all, strong nerves.

While the ten best young athletes and semi-professionals (pros) in the men's timbersports competed on Saturday, the International Women's Cup is on the program on Sunday with Canadian world record holder Steph Naud, Australian champion Maddison Kirley and defending champion Erin LaVoie (USA), among others.

On Saturday, Danny Martin once again took the overall victory in the men's event. The man from Sinntal in Hesse became German champion for the fifth time and defended his title for the second time in a row. He is currently in fourth place in the European rankings. This gives him the chance to go to the World Championships in Toulouse in November. The best eight Europeans will take part. However, various national decisions from other countries are still pending. Peter Bauer came second in Klingenthal, Marcel Steinkämper third. Around 1,200 spectators watched the competitions on site.
