In Dresden, almost 300 new master craftsmen have received their master craftsman certificates. The president of the skilled crafts sector is calling for a higher bonus from the state for future graduates.

The President of the Dresden Chamber of Crafts, Jörg Dittrich, is pushing for the master craftsman bonus to be doubled. The bonus, which currently amounts to 2,000 euros, is paid to tradespeople who successfully pass their master craftsman examination. Other federal states such as Lower Saxony or Bremen grant a 4000 euro subsidy, emphasized Dittrich, who is also President of the German Confederation of Skilled Crafts.

On Saturday, 294 new master craftsmen - 63 women and 231 men - received their master craftsman certificates at a ceremony at the Dresden Chamber of Crafts. They come from 28 different trades - from bakers to carpenters.

An increase in the bonus is on the agenda of state politicians. During the state election campaign, the CDU campaigned on the idea of doubling the master craftsman bonus. In the ultimately failed exploratory talks for a coalition between the CDU, BSW and SPD, the three partners agreed on an increase. The CDU and SPD now want to form a minority government in Saxony.
