For many drivers in Saxony, the classifications for motor vehicle liability insurance are changing. This could make it more expensive. The situation looks better for comprehensive insurance.

For around 300,000 drivers in the Bautzen region and in Saxon Switzerland, a higher and therefore worse regional class will apply to motor third party liability insurance in future. This could make car insurance more expensive there. In the other eleven registration districts in Saxony, the classification will remain the same. This was announced by the German Insurance Association (GDV) in Berlin.

There are even more changes in comprehensive insurance. For partial casco, 9 out of 13 registration districts slipped into more favorable regional classes. Only in Dresden, the city and district of Leipzig and the district of Sächsische Schweiz-Osterzgebirge will everything remain the same. Görlitz, Mittelsachsen and Zwickau are classified more favorably for comprehensive cover, while the rest remain unchanged.

Less risk is better for the insurance premium

Once a year, the GDV calculates the claims balances of the 413 registration districts in Germany. The aim is to find out where drivers cause a particularly high number of claims and where they do so less frequently. The districts are then divided into regional classes that reflect the risk of damage in a particular region. The following applies: the better the classification, the lower the insurance premium. However, according to the GDV, a change in the regional class does not indicate the development of the overall motor insurance premium.

There are twelve regional classes in motor third party liability insurance. The cities of Dresden (9) and Leipzig (8) have the highest classifications in Saxony. The most favorable regional classes (2) are in the registration districts of Görlitz and Central Saxony.

The Elbe-Elster district in Brandenburg, which is classified in class 1, has the best claims record in motor vehicle liability insurance nationwide. Claims here are around 30 percent lower than the average. Offenbach has the worst claims balance with class 12, with claims almost 40 percent above the average.
