Despite the digital transformation, Sachsenlotto is holding on to its network of local sales outlets, which are to be modernized. However, the lottery company is struggling with store closures, especially in rural areas. If stores close and no new partner can be found, vending machines will offer an alternative in future, explained sales manager Marcel Körner. Initially, 25 to 30 such terminals are to be installed by the end of the year.
"It is immensely important to us that we remain represented in rural areas," emphasized Managing Director Frank Schwarz. The retail outlets are important for the visibility of lottery offers and are also appreciated by young people. They also support regional businesses. According to the information provided, the number of retail outlets fell slightly last year to 1210. 77 percent of stakes are placed there.
Millions in winnings and record stakes
All in all, the Saxons spent more on their hopes of winning big in 2024. The stakes rose to 342.2 million euros (previous year: 334 million) - 83.69 euros per capita. This makes 2024 the most successful year in the history of Saxony's state lottery company, said Schwarz. The 6aus49 draw remains the most popular, accounting for almost half of all stakes (46.7 percent). The Eurojackpot has grown strongly with an increase of 33 percent, and the scratch card business is also developing very successfully.
On average, one million was won every month. Schwarz explained that this was exceptional. Typically, 6 or 7 such winnings are made per year. A total of 169.7 million euros was paid out. The highest prize went to the district of Görlitz: just under 4.7 million euros. The state budget also benefited from ample income from gambling: 124 million euros were transferred to the Free State as revenue and lottery tax, it was reported.
The three casinos have also performed excellently recently, Schwarz explained when asked. The casino in Leipzig is now to be expanded, and an extension is also being considered for Dresden - but then at a different location.
Youtube studio in a former factory hall
In future, Sachsenlotto also wants to focus more on younger people and has set up a YouTube studio in a former factory hall in Chemnitz with a 3x3 basketball court and a mobile halfpipe, among other things. Initially, ten shows on topics such as sport, music and lifestyle are to be produced here. The aim is to offer young talents a stage and reach. They could present themselves and their projects.
