The AfD federal party conference in Riesa, Saxony, did not start at the scheduled time this morning. This was due to protests by opponents of the party on several access roads. At 10.00 a.m., only a fraction of the approximately 600 delegates had arrived at the venue.
According to information from party circles, the party chairwoman, Alice Weidel, who is to be named as the AfD's candidate for chancellor at the two-day convention, was also held up. Police have set up checkpoints around the site.
