Return journey with obstacles: An RB Leipzig fan train was attacked in Mönchengladbach. It was not the first incident of this kind for the RB supporters.

The RB Leipzig fan train was attacked by unknown persons before the return journey from the game at Borussia Mönchengladbach. There was talk of a butyric acid attack on social media. The federal police told dpa that a foul-smelling liquid had escaped from broken bottles in two carriages. No one was injured.

The Federal Police did not confirm that the liquid was butyric acid, but the assumption is reasonable. The same applies to the assumption that the unknown perpetrators were Gladbach supporters. The train was blocked by the federal police and the return journey was delayed. At the time of the attack, the 600 fans were still on their way from the stadium to the train after the 0:1 defeat.

Butycide attack against Leipzig fans

This was the second butyric acid attack on Leipzig fans within a year. At the visiting match in Heidenheim at the end of April 2024, the visitors' block was treated with the strong-smelling liquid. The German Football Association subsequently fined the FCH €15,000.

In addition, there were clashes between the two groups of fans on the platform. The police used pepper spray. According to the federal police, Leipzig supporters also tried to break through a barrier. This resulted in a baton charge.
