Third again: Magdeburg clearly beats Regensburg

1. FC Magdeburg are back in third place in Bundesliga 2 and can continue to dream of promotion. The FCM only had problems with bottom club SSV Jahn Regensburg at the start and clearly won 3:0 (1:0) in front of 26,020 spectators. Martijn Kaars (28 minutes), Abu-Bekir El-Zein (51) and Philipp Hercher (72) scored for the Elbe club, who have collected 49 points after 30 match days.

Before the game, there was a medical emergency in which the visitors' team doctor rushed to help. A fan had to be resuscitated and paramedics covered the scene with protective cloths. The pre-match program was then suspended. After successful resuscitation, the supporter was taken to hospital, as a club spokesperson confirmed to the Deutsche Presse-Agentur. At half-time, the stadium announcer announced that the fan was out of danger.

With Baris Atik suspended for yellow cards, Christian Titz reshuffled his starting XI, bringing on Falko Michel, Bryan Teixeira and Xavier Amaechi from the start. The game then began with a lot of pace and the visitors looking for the goal. Magdeburg struggled to get control of the game, which made the match look rather wild at the start. Regensburg had the first chance to score when Marcus Mathisen managed to bend a cross that was actually too high towards his own goal (12'). Regensburg disrupted the build-up play early on, forcing FCM to play long balls.

Magdeburg's period of pressure was rewarded

Alexander Nollenberger latched onto one of these in the opposition penalty area, but his shot was no problem for former Magdeburg player Julian Pollersbeck in the visitors' goal (20'). FCM were now pressing, but were initially unable to find the final gap. After a sharp cross from Livan Burcu, Kaars only had to push the ball over the line. However, FCM then shifted down a gear again and Regensburg gained more of the play, but did not create any chances.

Magdeburg also struggled to initiate attacks after the break. When they did succeed, however, they were dangerous: Once again, it was a cross from the left that substitute El-Zein converted. Regensburg were less than impressed: Burcu had to save on the line from a corner (56'), but the Elbe side then calmed the game down. Magdeburg now acted more calmly and were even more intent on securing the ball.

Regensburg tried to get back into the game, but FCM were efficient with their few shots - Hercher, who had just come on as a substitute, increased the lead to 3-0 with a deflected ball. FCM ultimately recorded a commanding victory, in which Regensburg rarely posed a threat. However, the Magdeburg victory should have been higher, the last consequence in front of goal was missing.
