Energie Cottbus remain unbeaten for the seventh game in a row with a win in the eastern duel against Erzgebirge Aue. The third-division soccer team won 3:1 (1:1) in front of 10,319 spectators at the Erzgebirge Stadium. Under the watchful eye of soccer icon Eduard Geyer, Timmy Thiele (30 and 90.+4) scored twice for Cottbus after Tolcay Cigerci (81) had increased the lead in the meantime. Erik Majetschak (44) scored to make it 1-1.
The first 20 minutes went back and forth. Kilian Jakob had the first good chance when he found himself completely free in front of Cottbus keeper Elias Bethke, but was unable to get the ball past him. Maximilian Krauß and Timmy Thiele were particularly noticeable for the visitors. Both were also involved in the 1:0 in the 30th minute. Krauß slid the ball into the back of the net to Thiele, who then drove the ball right-footed towards goal. Anthony Barylla tried to clear but deflected the ball beyond Martin Männel's reach.
Aue were clearly the weaker team after that. Shortly before the break, however, the Violets equalized out of nowhere. After a free-kick from Marvin Stefaniak, Erik Majetschak (44) bounced the ball once and headed into the left corner to make it 1-1 at half-time.
Thiele the best Cottbus player
Energie were also clearly the stronger team in the second half. Aue showed improvement, but were unable to reward themselves. Instead, Cottbus struck again: This time, Thiele provided the assist for Tolcay Cigerci (81'), who scored into the left corner. And it got even worse: Thiele crowned his strong performance with his eighth goal of the season shortly before the end.
In injury time, tempers flared after a flare was fired into the Auer block by Cottbus fans. The police brought the situation under control until the final whistle.
