FC St. Pauli coach Alexander Blessin reacted with a "grin" to the speculation surrounding his name in connection with RB Leipzig's coaching search. "The focus is simply here. I want to put all my energy into the last six final games," said the 51-year-old ahead of the relegation battle in the northern Bundesliga on Saturday (3.30pm/Sky) at Holstein Kiel.
Blessin worked in RB's youth academy for many years. After "smiling slightly", he "put the newsprint away again". The "Sportbild" had named him as a candidate for the job. He is held in high esteem at the club, the report said.
The list of potential coaches in Leipzig has been getting longer and longer. Following Marco Rose's retirement, Zsolt Löw is now coaching the Saxons. Löw recently ruled out a further engagement. Oliver Glasner (Crystal Palace), Roger Schmidt (unassociated) and Danny Röhl (Sheffield Wednesday) were also recently mentioned as candidates.
