Dresdner SC's volleyball players have averted a premature end to the season and can continue to dream of winning the seventh championship title in the club's history. After Alexander Waibl's team lost the first play-off semi-final match 0:3 at Allianz MTV Stuttgart, the Elbe club came back from 2:0 down to win the second game at home 3:2 (23:25, 18:25, 25:22, 25:16, 15:8).
The German Cup winners thus equalized the best-of-three series at 1:1 and forced the deciding game, which will be played again next Wednesday at defending champions Stuttgart. After 114 minutes, it was Marta Levinska who converted the first match point with her 30th point.
Straube back in the team
In the first two sets, the defending champions from Stuttgart dominated the game with powerful tasks, variable attacks and a compact defense. The hosts, for whom regular setter Sarah Straube was able to play again after tearing a ligament, only turned the game around in the third period after trailing 2:8. A series of serves by top scorer Marta Levinska brought Alexander Waibl's side back into contention.
The Elbe club then really turned on the heat with powerful serves, a more stable reception and an improvement in attack and defense. After winning the third round, the DSC players literally played themselves into a frenzy, showed great morale and took the momentum into the fifth and deciding round after equalizing the set.
