The German cup winners lived up to their role as favorites at the start of the quarter-finals. However, the third-placed team in the main round had to work hard for the win against Wiesbaden.

Dresdner SC's volleyball players have taken an important step towards the play-off semi-finals. The team of coach Alexander Waibl won the first quarter-final match against VC Wiesbaden 3:1 (26:24, 25:13, 23:25, 25:13) in front of 2806 spectators in their home arena.

The six-time German champions now lead the best-of-three series 1:0 and can seal their place in the next round with another win in Hesse next Saturday. Should VC Wiesbaden win its home game, the decisive third clash would take place in Dresden on the following Wednesday.

As expected, the visitors from Hesse put up much more resistance than in the last preliminary round game a week earlier, which the DSC women had won easily 3-0 in Hesse.

The first set remained evenly poised right to the end, but the Dresden women made fewer mistakes in the decisive moments. They dictated the game in periods two and four with very powerful tasks and were also able to score successfully in attack from a stable reception. In the third set, Alexander Waibl's team struggled to get the ball on the floor against the defensively strong Hessians and conceded this set. Overall, however, the favorites prevailed after 95 minutes thanks to their greater quality in all elements.
