FC Erzgebirge overcomes the supposedly biggest hurdle towards winning the cup. A convincing first half is enough in Chemnitz.

Third-division soccer team FC Erzgebirge Aue has reached the semi-finals of the Saxon Cup competition. In the top match, Aue won 2:0 (2:0) at Chemnitzer FC. Maximilian Schmid (25') with his first goal for the Erzgebirger and Eric Majetschak (29') gave Aue the lead in the first half in front of 14,812 spectators in the sold-out stadium on Gellertstraße and thus already ensured the decision.

The third division team dominated the game for 45 minutes and went into the half-time break with a fully deserved 2-0 lead. Aue used their routine to take the record cup winners from Saxony by surprise twice with quick and surprising moves. There was initially not much to see from CFC, who had previously eliminated third division leaders Dynamo Dresden.

That changed at the start of the second period. A completely different host pinned Aue back in their half, but missed the opportunities that presented themselves. FC Erzgebirge waited for counter-attacking chances
