Luger Julia Taubitz fails at her home World Cup, but two team colleagues make it onto the podium in Altenberg.

Just over a week before the European Luge Championships in Winterberg, former World Champion Anna Berreiter made it onto the podium for the first time this season at her home World Cup in Altenberg. The 25-year-old Bavarian finished second ahead of her teammate Merle Fräbel from Thuringia after Austria's Madeleine Egle won. Overall World Cup winner Julia Taubitz, on the other hand, failed to finish the fifth of nine races this season in tenth place.

Berreiter, the 2023 individual World Champion, was 0.150 seconds behind Egle. The Austrian extended her lead in the overall World Cup. She now has 359 points, ahead of her compatriot Lisa Schulte (355) and Taubitz (330). Fräbel (312) is fourth ahead of Berreiter (256).

Fräbel made it from ninth place to third with a strong second run. "It was a race to catch up that ended pretty well for me," said the Thuringian. The previous week, the 21-year-old Fräbel had already finished second in Sigulda, Latvia.
