Toni Eggert is returning to the sport of luge together with Florian Müller and is aiming for a starting place in the World Cup.

Record-breaking luge world champion Toni Eggert is returning to the ice track. In the new season, the 35-year-old doubles specialist will compete in the doubles together with 22-year-old Florian Müller from Oberwiesenthal. The luger, who competes for BRC Ilsenburg from Saxony-Anhalt, retired six months ago and is currently working as a coach for the USA luge team.

"We have to learn to luge and start together," Eggert told ARD-Sportschau. The second goal is a starting place in the World Cup. "If we do our job well, it's realistic that we'll make it," Eggert continued Three German doubles are eligible to compete in the World Cup. The portal insüdthüringen.de also reported on the comeback plans.

Together with his partner Sascha Benecken, Eggert has won a total of ten World Championship titles in doubles. The duo announced the end of their careers last August. Eggert and Benecken achieved a record 54 victories and 106 podium places in the World Cup. They also won the overall World Cup six times.
