Jürgen Klopp appeared at a soccer match of his new employer in Leipzig for the first time since taking up his post as Head of Global Soccer at Red Bull. On Sunday afternoon, Klopp sat between Leipzig's sporting director Marcel Schäfer and technical director Mario Gomez during the home game against Werder Bremen.
Schäfer was already raving about his future seatmate before kick-off. "I'm sticking to my guns, he's an absolute king transfer," said Schäfer before the game on DAZN. "We are all really looking forward to Jürgen Klopp here in Leipzig because he will really help us and everyone else with his expertise, his experience and his great passion for soccer."
Klopp already at ice hockey and in Paris
However, it was not Klopp's first public appearance since his new job was announced. According to media reports, the 57-year-old attended the German Ice Hockey League match between EHC Red Bull Munich and the Fischtown Pinguins from Bremerhaven on Friday evening. The following day, he was seen alongside Gomez and former Brazil star Rai at FC Paris.
Klopp has been global head of soccer at the Austrian beverage group since January 1. In addition to RB Leipzig, he is responsible for the clubs in Salzburg, New York, Brazil and Japan. The company also holds stakes in Leeds United and Paris and is also a financial backer of FC Torino and Atlético Madrid. Klopp is to be officially introduced in his new role at Red Bull at a major press conference in Salzburg on Tuesday.
