The players and coaching team of regional league soccer team Lok Leipzig are taking unusual financial measures to achieve success. In order to pay for a winter training camp in Belek, Turkey, the team and coaches have contributed to the costs, as sports director Toni Wachsmuth told the "Leipziger Volkszeitung" newspaper.
Leipzig leads the north-east division after 15 match days with seven points ahead of second place. At the end of the series, two relegation matches against the champions of the Regionalliga Nord will decide who is promoted to the third division.
The Lok managers want to use the training camp from January 11 to 18 to copy the summer camp in Sternberg, where the foundations for the current success were laid. "A camp like this is always a place for team building and good discussions within the team, you spend a lot of time together. We had a very good camp in the summer, so we will structure the upcoming one in such a way that it will be similar," said Wachsmuth. The sporting director points to the better climatic conditions in Turkey and wants to play two test matches on natural grass, which is not necessarily possible on home soil.
