Magdeburg remain without a home win after 1:1 against Paderborn

No home win again: 1. FC Magdeburg missed out on their first home win of the season at the eighth attempt, ending the first half of the season without a home win. They drew 1:1 (0:0) against SC Paderborn. Philipp Hercher (57') put Magdeburg ahead in front of 20,665 spectators, Raphael Obermair (69', penalty) equalized. Magdeburg remain ninth in the table, three points behind league leaders Paderborn.

"I think we could have been a bit more effective. We had enough chances to score the second or third goal. We didn't manage that," said Atik.

For the first time this season, FCM coach Christian Titz was not forced to make any changes, meaning FCM fielded the successful team from the away win in Münster. In the duel between the teams with the most sprints in the league, the transition game and good positioning in defense should be decisive. Magdeburg's starting XI did not last long: Samuel Loric was injured after less than two minutes following a tackle in the air and had to be substituted.

Magdeburg with little ball and ideas

After that, the match was characterized by many duels, in which the visitors had more of the ball, but Magdeburg initially looked more dangerous - even if both teams still had reserves in terms of determination. Paderborn were dangerous from set-pieces, always causing confusion in the Magdeburg penalty area - on the FCM side, Martijn Kaars (26) failed to beat Pelle Boevink in the SCP goal. Overall, however, Magdeburg had little to show for their efforts, with the visitors' pressing effectively restricting the blue and whites.

The visitors maintained their early approach after the break, restricting Magdeburg's build-up play from the center backs. However, FCM now had longer spells of possession in the visitors' half, but were unable to get a clear shot on target. Boevink cleared a long pin-pass to Baris Atik near the corner of the penalty area, but Hercher dusted it off and scored to take the lead.

Paderborn equalized with a penalty kick: Magdeburg had been unable to clear a ball and goalkeeper Dominik Reimann hit substitute Felix Platte while trying to clear it: the former Magdeburg player Obermair converted confidently. After that, the visitors kept the pressure on and pressed for the winning goal. Magdeburg repeatedly lost the ball early on and hardly had any chances to score. In the final minutes, the teams kept an eye on each other, but did not take the final risk.
