The Bundesliga handball team SC DHfK Leipzig is still in a form crisis. The team of coach Runar Sigtryggsson lost 27:29 (17:18) at Frisch Auf Göppingen and thus conceded their fourth defeat in a row. Andri Runarsson was SC DHfK's best scorer with eight goals and the team remains in 13th place with 17:31 points.
The duel between the table rivals got off to a fast-paced start. Despite the absence of international Luca Witzke due to injury, Leipzig developed a lot of penetration at the back, but had major problems with Göppingen's quick transition play. Until the middle of the first half, both teams shone with extremely high shooting percentages. A change of goalkeeper then gave Leipzig fresh impetus.
Binder fails with two seven-meter penalties
Domenico Ebner, who replaced the hapless Kristian Saeveras, immediately got into the game and played a key role in the visitors taking a 13:11 lead (19th minute). However, SC DHfK subsequently made an increasing number of technical mistakes and was also unable to find a way past Göppingen's quick playmaker Ludvig Hallbäck. Frisch Auf led narrowly at the break.
After the break, both teams stepped up the intensity in defense. Ebner continued to hold strong, but Göppingen's goalkeeper Bart Ravensbergen also increasingly became a factor and saved two seven-meter penalties from Lukas Binder, among others. The visitors fought their way back to within a goal on several occasions, but never managed to equalize. In the final phase, Frisch Auf confidently wrapped up the victory.
