Max Langenhan wins his first major luge title. The World Cup leader becomes single-seater world champion in Altenberg. And a former champion also wins.

Max Langenhan has won his first major individual title at the Luge World Championships in Altenberg. The 24-year-old World Cup leader confidently won the single-seater competition on Saturday ahead of Austria's Nico Gleirscher. Three-time Olympic champion Felix Loch took bronze after catching up in the second run.

One day after his silver medal in the sprint competition, Langenhan was unbeatable in the traditional single-seater competition. "In the end, of course, it's this title that counts, which you can also win at the Olympics. It's simply the single-seater title. The sprint doesn't yet exist at the Olympics," the luger, who has dominated this season, said before the World Championships.

For the German lugers, the title for Langenhan and Loch's bronze medal was the fourth medal in the sixth of the nine World Championship races. In Altenberg, the men's doubles and women's singles with sprint world champion Julia Taubitz and the team relay are still on the competition program on Saturday and Sunday respectively. At the previous home World Championships in Oberhof last year, the German team won eight titles and eight other medals.
