Despite the clear defeat against the Niners Chemnitz, Johnathan Stove has thrown himself into the history books of the Syntainics MBC. With 41 points, the American set a club record in the almost 18-year history of the Bundesliga basketball club. Quinton Hooker had set the previous record with 37 points in a win in Frankfurt in April 2021.
In the end, Chemnitz won by a clear 111:95 in front of 3,000 fans in the sold-out Weissenfels Stadthalle and celebrated its 21st victory of the season. Manager Steffen Herold spoke about the reasons for the success on Deutschlandfunk radio. "We're rolling this season. The team has come together extremely well, even early on in the season. These are guys who are highly competitive, they want to go all the way," said the official. Chemnitz is also about to reach the final of the Europe Cup, having won the first leg of the semi-final in Bilbao 98:73.
At the MBC, Chemnitz initially trailed 3:7, but turned it around with a 16:0 run to take a 19:7 lead. The lead grew to 44:21 by midway through the second quarter, meaning the game was actually decided. However, the MBC pulled back to within two points at the break before the visitors' class prevailed in the second period.
