Citizens' councils with randomly drawn participants are a popular instrument of co-determination, especially in municipalities. In Dresden, too, such a council is to be established - for peaceful coexistence.

Under the name "Peace City Dresden", a citizens' council is to discuss coexistence in Saxony's state metropolis in future and draw up recommendations for peaceful coexistence. For the first time this Friday and on four further meeting days, 50 citizens from the city on the Elbe will come together in the famous building, according to the Frauenkirche Foundation as the initiator. The results will be presented publicly in the church on May 8 and handed over to the municipality.

The Citizens' Council is intended to be a platform for dialog, understanding and active citizen participation, to discuss existing perspectives, strong opinions, different experiences and opposing design wishes. "Because peace does not mean that everyone agrees, but that we can deal with differences," explained the foundation.

The foundation wrote to 3,000 people and selected people of different age groups, educational backgrounds and biographies for this relatively new format for the participation of people who have not previously been politically involved. The meetings of the Citizens' Council are not open to the public in order to facilitate confidential discussions. The work of the committee is supported by experts and academics and funded by the Free State of Bavaria.
