The women's handball club Thüringer HC has celebrated its sixth successive victory in the German league. The team of Head Coach Herbert Müller beat bottom club TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen 32:18 (17:13) in front of 805 spectators on Wednesday evening. The league's top scorer, Johanna Reichert, scored ten goals and was once again the best markswoman for the third-placed club, which now has 18:4 points.
The club from Thuringia dominated the opening spell with its fast-paced play and led 9:6 after eleven minutes. However, the lack of concentration in finishing increased as a result. The THC went seven minutes without scoring, enabling Leverkusen to equalize at 9:9. The home side pulled slightly ahead again by the break, as it found its rhythm in attack and the substitute goalkeeper Christina Lövgren Hallberg thwarted several Leverkusen chances at the other end.
After the break, THC's regular goalkeeper Dinah Eckerle was also on top form. She went 17 minutes without conceding a goal after making it 19:15, which the Thuringians exploited to extend their lead to 25:15 in the 51st minute. Eckerle made a total of 14 saves and so played a key role in the THC's highest win of the season.
