Coach Marco Rose has put the onus on RB Leipzig's reserves in the battle for regular places. "At the end of the day, it's about showing myself at the top level every day. That I push, that I try even harder, that I keep at it even more. That applies to all players," said the 47-year-old ahead of the game at FSV Mainz 05 on Saturday (3.30pm/Sky). Rose mentioned Fabio Carvalho, Christoph Baumgartner and Benjamin Sesko by name.
Rose is unlikely to rotate much at the bottom of the table compared to previous Bundesliga games. Emil Forsberg and Xavi Simons are currently first choice in attacking midfield, while Lois Openda and Yussuf Poulsen are first choice in attack.
Rose is demanding more from the highly talented Carvalho, who is on loan from Liverpool FC. "It was clear that he would be something of a challenger given the quality of the squad," said the coach. "He's doing a very good job overall. But we also played very well in Wolfsburg and were knocked out." RB Leipzig lost 1-0 to VfL Wolfsburg in the DFB Cup during the week, meaning they cannot win the title for the third time in a row.
