A lot of work awaits Jürgen Klopp as Red Bull's new head of soccer, according to Lothar Matthäus. "Football at RB," said the record-breaking German international on Sky, "is currently a shambles, to put it bluntly. With what it used to be and what it is now, Red Bull soccer is currently where those responsible never wanted to see it. Never! Never!"
Ex-coach Klopp (57) has been responsible for the soccer division at Liverpool FC since January 1 as the so-called Head of Global Soccer at Red Bull following his voluntary departure after nine years at the club. The current poor results and weak performances of Bundesliga club RB Leipzig as well as the coaching debate surrounding Marco Rose are also keeping Klopp busy.
Matthäus: Klopp no miracle man
"And now Jürgen Klopp is here. But Jürgen Klopp isn't going to come and put his hand on it and everything will work again," emphasized Matthäus (63): "It's going to be a long process until it works again."
After the 2-1 defeat to Mainz 05, Leipzig are still only sixth in the Bundesliga, three points off a Champions League place. RB won just one of seven games in the second half of the season (2-0 against St. Pauli).
