In the struggle for the future of the Volkswagen plants in Saxony, Minister of Economic Affairs Dirk Panter (SPD) is demanding concessions from the Group. "We need clear prospects for Saxony, not lip service," he told the "Sächsische Zeitung" and the "Leipziger Volkszeitung". Saxony was suffering disproportionately from the wage agreement compared to others.
Together with Minister President Michael Kretschmer, he now wanted to speak quickly with the VW board members in Wolfsburg, he continued. He also wants to talk to Audi about whether the brand could step in more in Zwickau. After all, Audi was founded there. Everything must be done "to ensure that the VW plant in Zwickau does not slip into unproductivity". The goal is a future perspective beyond 2030.
After prolonged trepidation, it was announced at the end of last year that the VW sites in Saxony would be retained. However, the Zwickau vehicle plant will lose production of the ID.3 and the Cupra born to Wolfsburg. In addition, vehicle production at the Gläserne Manufaktur in Dresden will cease at the end of 2025, according to the company.
