Energy prices are falling. However, consumers still had to dig deeper into their pockets than a year ago.

The inflation rate in Saxony has continued to fall year-on-year. According to provisional figures, it stood at 2.3 percent in February, compared to 2.4 percent in January, announced the State Statistical Office in Kamenz. In principle, the European Central Bank considers an inflation rate of 2.0 percent to be price stability.

Price increase for travel and accommodation just in time for the start of the holidays

Prices rose by 0.3 percent from January to February this year. The cost of package tours (9.1 percent) and overnight stays in hotels and guesthouses (2.0 percent) rose in time for the start of the winter vacations. Fuel prices were 0.4 percent higher than in the previous month, but 0.5 percent cheaper than a year ago.

Car garage repairs significantly more expensive than a year ago

There were notable year-on-year increases for restaurants and accommodation (4.5 percent) and goods and services (5.8 percent). Prices at hairdressers (2.2 to 2.4 percent), car repair shops (8.2 percent), restaurants (4.3 percent) and dry cleaners (2.2 percent) were all more expensive within a year.

While they were above the previous year's level in the food market (1.8 percent), mainly due to increases for edible fats and oils (14.2 percent) or dairy products and eggs (4.1 percent), the energy market recorded a decline of 2.7 percent, it said.
