The federally owned Wismut GmbH has extended an agreement on cooperation with the US Department of Energy. According to Wismut, the aim is to intensify the exchange of technical information, the mutual qualification of specialists and cooperation in the effective management of uranium contaminated sites in the future. The aim is to preserve and use the knowledge accumulated over decades on the history of uranium mining and remediation technologies.
"Our organizations pursue a common goal: to secure the nuclear legacy, protect nature sustainably and shape a positive future for the affected communities," emphasised Wismut Managing Director Michael Paul at the signing ceremony in Leipzig. Wismut GmbH is a German state-owned company that focuses on the remediation and recultivation of former uranium mining sites in Germany.
