At Saxony's universities, fewer young people graduated with a Bachelor's degree in 2023 than in the previous year. The number of degrees fell by 7.4 percent to 6,690, as announced by the State Statistical Office on Tuesday. In contrast, the number of master's degrees rose by 5.4 percent to 6102. 1483 doctorates were awarded, 4.5 percent fewer than in 2022.

In total, 20,110 final examinations were passed at universities last year. This was 0.7 percent fewer than in the previous year. Around 40 percent of these were passed in the so-called STEM subject groups, i.e. mathematics, natural sciences and engineering.
