Grid operators are also noticing the increase in renewable energies. In the grid of one of the largest operators in eastern Germany, it is not only the number of production plants that is growing.

The eastern German electricity grid operator Mitnetz has recorded a significant increase in renewable energy plants in its region. Over the past ten years, the installed capacity has almost doubled and the number of generation plants has almost tripled in five years, the company announced. Last year, the number of systems rose to just under 143,000. At just under 53 percent, photovoltaics accounted for the largest share, while wind power accounted for more than 43 percent. The number of balcony power plants in particular is rising rapidly.

However, there is also continued interest in consumer equipment, such as private charging points for electric cars, so-called "wallboxes", heat pumps and electricity storage systems. Last year alone, more than 22,000 of these systems were newly registered with Mitnetz. This means that a total of almost 100,000 such systems were connected to the distribution grid. According to Mitnetz, it is one of the largest regional distribution grid operators in eastern Germany. The grid covers parts of Brandenburg, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia.
