Cannabis is now used for therapeutic purposes by many people. The signs are pointing to growth for producer Demecan.

According to the Federal Drug Commissioner, more than 80,000 people in Germany are currently being treated with medical cannabis. Burkhard Blienert said during a visit to the Saxon cannabis producer Demecan that good experiences had been made with it, particularly in the treatment of spasticity or certain chronic pains.

Blienert expects more medicinal cannabis to be produced domestically in the future. So far, most of it has come from Canada or Portugal. The Cannabis Act and changes to the Narcotics Act have paved the way for a paradigm shift in addiction and drug policy. This will ensure greater acceptance on all sides.

Demecan has been allowed to cultivate medicinal cannabis since 2019. Previously, however, conditions such as a maximum quantity applied to production. Under the new cannabis law, the company in Ebersbach is now allowed to grow unlimited quantities. Demecan had already reported growing demand in July.
