Fowl plague has been detected in five dead swans at the Pirk dam in Vogtland. The animals were found dead in the water at the end of March. An investigation revealed that they were infected with the H5N1 influenza virus.
The district office called on all poultry farmers in the Vogtland district to be more vigilant. In a large free-range poultry farm near the dam, it was ordered that the animals must be moved into stables. All other keepers within a radius of three kilometers should exercise special caution.
