Uwe Platzbecker will become the new Medical Director at Dresden University Hospital in 2025, succeeding Michael Albrecht.

Uwe Platzbecker has been unanimously elected as Medical Director by the Supervisory Board of Dresden University Hospital (UKD). As announced by the Saxon Ministry of Science on Wednesday, the hematologist and oncologist will succeed Michael Albrecht, who has been at the helm of the hospital for almost 23 years, in 2025. Platzbecker was born in Dresden, studied medicine here and has already practiced and conducted research at the UKD. He has been Professor of Haematology at Leipzig University Hospital and Clinic Director since 2018. Science Minister Sebastian Gemkow (CDU) described Platzbecker as an excellent researcher and physician.
