More young people are starting university studies in Saxony. This is shown by preliminary figures from the Ministry of Science. One subject area in particular is in high demand.

The number of first-year students at universities in Saxony has risen. According to preliminary figures, 17,620 first-semester students have enrolled at state and state-recognized universities in the current academic year, as announced by the Ministry of Science. This is around 800 or almost five percent more than in the previous year. Above-average growth was recorded in the engineering sciences in particular, as well as art colleges, which traditionally have a high proportion of foreign students, according to the ministry.
