The Belarusian author Alherd Bacharevich has been awarded the Leipzig Book Prize for European Understanding 2025 for his novel "Europe's Dogs", which was published in German this year, the city of Leipzig has announced. The jury praised the book as a "wild mixture of political thriller, epic, adventure story, satire and fairy tale". It is a furious literary version of the future.
The book prize is endowed with 20,000 euros. It will be awarded on March 26 at the opening of the Leipzig Book Fair. Bacharevich was born in Minsk in 1975 and, according to the city of Leipzig, has been living in exile as a writer and translator for four years.
