Authors will be presenting themselves at around 2,000 events at the Leipzig Book Fair reading festival "Leipzig reads". Two Nobel Prize winners, almost 50 authors from the Book Fair's guest country Norway and prominent names from the German literary scene will be taking part, said Book Fair Director Astrid Böhmisch. "We have a wide range here."
More publishers than last year at the Book Fair
According to Böhmisch, the Leipzig Book Fair (27 to 30 March) is heading for a good turnout. The final figures are not yet known, but more publishers than last year have decided to take part. In the difficult economic times in which publishers find themselves, this is a good sign for the spring meeting of the book industry.
Among others, "Ärzte" member Bela B Felsenheimer will be at the reading festival. He will be presenting his novel "Fun" about sexism in the music business. Bestselling author Sebastian Fitzek, who has just been on a stadium tour, is also coming to Leipzig.
Belarusian Nobel Prize winner Svetlana Alexievich is expected to take part in a panel discussion with exiled publishers from her home country. Polish author Olga Tokarczuk, who has also won the prize, will talk about her writing.
Norway with Knausgård and Lunde in Leipzig
The guest country Norway is bringing stars such as Karl Ove Knausgård and Maja Lunde to the book fair. However, the Scandinavian program should reflect the entire diversity of Norwegian literature, emphasized Margit Walsø from the association "Norwegian Literature Abroad".
